What to expect

A Supportive Space for Gay Dads in Scotland – You’re Not Alone

Being a gay dad can be incredibly rewarding, but it can also come with challenges that are hard to talk about—especially if you don’t know anyone else in a similar situation. Many men across Scotland have felt isolated trying to navigate parenthood without the understanding or support they need. That’s why this group was created: to offer a safe, welcoming space where you can connect with others who truly get it.

What to Expect at a Meeting

Our group meets in a relaxed and friendly setting. We start gathering informally in the café/bar area of our meeting venue from 8:00pm. This is a chance to arrive at your own pace, grab a drink if you like, and have casual conversations with other group members. There’s no pressure—just a warm atmosphere and friendly faces.

Around 8:15pm, we move to a private room where we can talk more openly and confidentially. The meeting itself is informal and supportive. We usually begin with brief introductions—just a bit about who we are and what brought us to the group. You’re welcome to share as much or as little as you feel comfortable with. No one is put on the spot and remember anything you share is kept confidential.

From there, the conversation can go in many directions. People might talk about parenting challenges, relationships with ex-partners or co-parents, coming out to children or family, dating as a parent, or simply what their day-to-day life looks like. Often, someone will raise an issue or question, and others will share their experiences or offer support. It’s about listening, learning from each other, and realising you’re not alone in what you’re going through.

You don’t need to have a particular problem to attend—sometimes just being around others who understand can be enough. And if you’d prefer just to listen in at first, that’s completely okay too.

Come Along – You’re Very Welcome

If you’ve been feeling isolated or just want to meet others who understand the journey of being a gay dad, we’d love to welcome you. Whether you’re newly out, already parenting, or somewhere in between, this is a space where you’ll be supported, respected, and heard.

You don’t have to go through it alone—come along and see what it’s like. You might just find the support and connection you’ve been missing.
